Operation Good Thing – All Year Round!
Join with us also as we celebrate over 20 years of Street Packs in the hands of homeless youth. The Street Packs means continuing survival for many but they are messages of love for all.
Through the years, the Street Packs were decorated with well wishing cards and thoughtful gestures–they were put together by families like yourselves! As we move forward into the next decade with Operation Good Thing, we continue to send handcrafted, individualized messages of love framed in purposeful packages.
You have also the opportunity for your group to donate to specific items that Light Patrol purchases and distributes at different times of the year. You can receive a tax receipt for these donations. You can sponsor $500 for a youth in transition! Please download our Operation Good Thing (OGT) Brochure for more information and our order form to order.
Youth Transition Program
The Youth Transition Program aims to connect street involved individuals who desire to make changes in their lives (i.e. finding housing or employment, reconnecting with family, etc.) with a coach who is willing to support and walk alongside the youth as they transition in these areas. Through a one-on-one relationship, the coach helps the individual recognize and celebrate their God-given potential, encourages them to believe in the possibility of positive, personal transformation, and supports them as they work towards realizing that transformation in their own lives.
Each coach is paired with a youth and works with that youth for a minimum of one year. Over that time a solid, caring relationship is established and the coach, using some basic resources provided by Light Patrol, encourages the youth to discover his or her passions, strengths, and dreams. As the youth discovers more about who he or she is created to be, the coach helps the youth to set goals in line with their personality and ambitions, and supports them as the youth works to achieve those goals.
We are always looking for mature Christians to become new coaches in the program. If you would like more information about the program please download our Youth Transition Program Brochure to find out more about the program, or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If what you have read has piqued your interest to become a coach, please complete this Coach Suitability Form.
If you have a heart for marginalized youth and would like to explore the possibilities of becoming involved in Light Patrol’s outreach activities, please sign up for Light Patrol’s next volunteer information session.
Please direct volunteer inquiries to 416-383-1229.
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities that don’t involve outreach activities. If you are interested in helping behind the scenes, please call us at 416-383-1229. Volunteers are always needed to sort clothing donations and make sandwiches one afternoon per week.
Our staff speak regularly in churches, schools (elementary to post-secondary), small groups, and major events, with expertise in such areas as: understanding street youth, engaging the church in homeless ministry and getting involved in the unique approach of Light Patrol. Requests are subject to timing and availability.
